The Story of an Imprisoned Afghan Girl
My name is Nargis, a 20-year-old girl from Afghanistan.
Nearly three years ago, when I was in 12th grade, it was the time for our midterm exams. The Taliban arrived, and the city was engulfed in conflict. We took our exams trembling with fear. After the Taliban seized power, schools and universities were shut down, and we were deprived of the opportunity to take the Kankor (university entrance exam).
All doors to education were closed for us girls, and many who were prevented from continuing their studies were forced into marriage. Despair and hopelessness spread everywhere.
In the midst of this darkness, online programs emerged, including the Women’s Empowerment Program, which became a beacon of hope for many girls. This program helped girls learn life skills, stand against discrimination, and fight for their rights.
